oana is working with undergraduate researcher Valerie and post-doc Will on reconstructing phylogenetic relationships of Costus, while learning molecular lab techniques. She loves California native plants and is an avid Jepson Herbarium workshop participant. She is looking forward to starting graduate school in the fall where she will be studying plant diversification integrating comparative morphology and molecular evolution. She is interested in why certain clades diversify so broadly and how that relates to adaptation and the relationship between phenotypic and genotypic variation. She'd love to study closely related clades with high morphological variation by exploring the mechanisms that create and maintain that diversity.
